The prosecutor's office suspected the ex-mayor of Odessa Trukhanov of negligence leading to the death of people. Previously, Zelensky deprived him of Ukrainian citizenship

The Odessa regional prosecutor's office brought charges against the former mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov for official negligence leading to the death of people. As follows from the statement of the prosecutor's office, the head of the city did not ensure timely repairs of sewerage, drainage and drainage systems, which is why the streets of Odessa were regularly flooded.

As a result of the flooding of part of the city, which occurred on September 30, nine people, including a child, were killed. Then, due to heavy rains, the basement floor of a residential building was flooded. According to investigators, the mayor did not properly alert the population about the threat of an emergency.

The National Police of Ukraine reports that the suspects in the case, in addition to Trukhanov, are two of his deputies, officials from departments of the Odessa City Council, as well as managers of the utility company - a total of nine people. RBC-Ukraine writes that security forces conducted more than 25 searches in the buildings of the City Council, utility companies and apartments of officials, seizing documents and equipment.

On October 14, Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree depriving Gennady Trukhanov of citizenship. The President of Ukraine explained his decision by the fact that, according to the SBU, the mayor of Odessa has Russian citizenship. Also, according to Zelensky, a decision was made to resign Trukhanov.
