Three-year-old Indian Sarvagya Singh Kushwaha became the youngest chess player in history to receive a FIDE rating. The Guardian reports this.
To receive a rating, a chess player must beat at least one other player who already has a FIDE rating. At the moment, Kushwaha has already beaten three, his rating in rapid chess is 1572 points. For comparison, the rating of the current world champion Magnus Carlsen is 2824 points.
“We are very proud and honored that our son became the youngest chess player in the world to receive a FIDE rating. We want him to become a grandmaster,” said the baby’s father, Siddharth Singh.
The previous youngest chess player with a FIDE rating was also Indian - Anish Sarkar. He was rated at three years, eight months and 19 days. Kushwaha was three years, seven months and 20 days old at the time of rating.
