Russian wrestlers and weightlifters in youth categories were allowed to participate in tournaments with the flag and anthem

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has allowed Russian athletes in the under-23 category to participate in international tournaments with the flag and anthem, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev said . “Adults [athletes] - after recovery from OCD,” the minister added.

Degtyarev also said that Russia at the Winter Olympics, which will be held in Italy on February 6–22, will be represented by a maximum of 13 athletes.

The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation, Mikhail Mamiashvili, in turn, said that the United World of Wrestling (UWW) decided to allow Russian athletes under the age of 24 to participate in international competitions with the flag and anthem of the country.

“The Bureau of the United World of Wrestling has decided to allow Russian youth under 24 years of age and younger ages to participate in international competitions with the flag and anthem of the country,” he said. “The issue regarding adults remains open for now; it will be considered at one of the upcoming bureau meetings.”

In February 2025, Russian athletes were allowed to compete under the UWW flag; before that, they participated in international tournaments in a neutral status.
