The tenth newborn has died in Novokuznetsk since December. The Baza Telegram channel reported this on January 24. The child died on January 22. His mother lost the ability to have children after giving birth.
According to Baza, the boy was born prematurely. His 38-year-old mother Venus was admitted to the hospital in early December after her water broke prematurely. The birth took place on December 11 via cesarean section. During the operation, doctors discovered that the placenta had fused to the uterus. The uterus had to be removed, and the woman became infertile.
After the birth of the child, weighing about 1.5 kg, she was placed in intensive care. The mother claims that on the first day after giving birth, there was a woman with pneumonia in the room with her and the baby. Venus was soon discharged, the child remained in the hospital. The woman visited him regularly for several weeks.
In January, the baby’s condition worsened sharply: his stomach became swollen, then his kidneys began to fail, and intestinal bleeding began. Doctors also detected the Serratia bacterium in the child. Despite treatment, the child died.
This case became the tenth against the backdrop of a major scandal surrounding the maternity hospital at the Novokuznetsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1 named after G. P. Kurbatov. In early January, it became known about the death of nine babies born in this institution between December 1 and January 12. After this, the Investigative Committee opened two criminal cases - about causing death by negligence of two or more persons and about negligence.
In connection with the case, the hospital's chief physician, Vitaly Kheraskov, and the acting head of the intensive care unit, Alexey Emikh, were detained, who, according to him, assumed this position several hours before the start of interrogations by security forces. Before this, Emikh worked in the maternity hospital as an anesthesiologist-resuscitator, and the head of the department was Konstantin Lukashev. The latter resigned from the institution on January 11, wrote NGS42.ru.
The investigation believes that the death of the children occurred due to improper performance of professional duties. Kheraskov was later removed from office. Later, the Central District Court of Novokuznetsk sent him under house arrest, and ordered Emikh to ban certain actions.
After information about the deaths of babies became public, the media and Telegram channels began to receive stories from other women who gave birth in this maternity hospital over the years. They reported rough treatment, the absence of doctors during childbirth, the use of dangerous methods and deaths of children, which they said were then attributed to “intrauterine infections.”
Against the backdrop of the scandal, the governor of the Kemerovo region stated that the cause of the tragedies could have been the alleged behavior of the women in labor themselves. He claimed that women are not seen by doctors and come to the maternity hospital in a state of intoxication. He later publicly apologized for these words.
