The official accounts of the White House and the US Department of Homeland Security began publishing media materials with images of penguins amid statements by President Donald Trump about the need to annex Greenland to the United States. However, penguins do not live in Greenland - their natural environment is located in the area of ​​the South Pole.

First, the White House posted on the social network Twitter (X) an image of Donald Trump with a penguin against a snowy background. The post said: "Adopt [hug] a penguin." In the image created using a neural network, the US President walks through the snow next to a penguin holding an American flag. Both are heading towards the Greenland flag.

Following this, the content with the penguinwas published by the US Department of Homeland Security. The department’s account posted a video of a lone penguin walking through a snowy area. The video is accompanied by voiceover text:

“One of them caught our attention - the one in the center. It did not go to the feeding areas at the ice edge, nor back to the colony. Soon we saw him heading straight towards the mountains, about 70 kilometers away. Dr. Ainley explained that even if he were caught and returned to the colony, he would immediately go to the mountains again. But why?"

The video was published with the ministry's caption: "Americans have always known 'why.'" The White House reposted this post.

The publications appeared against the backdrop of active statements by Donald Trump about the strategic importance of the island and the need to include it in the United States, supposedly for protection from Russia and China.

This is not the first time that US authorities have “disturbed” penguins. In April 2025, Trump imposed tariffs on the uninhabited penguin archipelago.
