Some facilities in Murmansk and Severomorsk were again left without electricity on the morning of January 31, said the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrei Chibis. Cities were again left without electricity and heat after a large-scale blackout a week ago.
A repeated “technological violation” was recorded on a new section of the power line, Rosseti North-West reported . They promised to switch consumers to backup power supply schemes, and an hour and a half later the company reported that the power supply to the cities had been partially restored.
According to KP-Murmansk, the electricity in the homes of local residents went out at about six in the morning. Official reports of a power failure appeared an hour later. Despite the fact that light actually returned to some houses in the first minutes, in some areas there is still no electricity or heating. In Murmansk on the morning of Saturday, January 31, it was about −20 °C.
The Murmansk authorities turned off outdoor lighting and illumination in the city, part of the trolleybus lines were de-energized, and classes were canceled at schools. The mayor of the city, Ivan Lebedev, also called on residents to “limit the use” of heaters, boilers and washing machines.
The cause of the new accident is still unknown. The company assured that the power transmission towers restored after the accident on January 23 were not damaged.
Murmansk and neighboring Severomorsk were partially without power last week, on January 23, due to the collapse of several power transmission towers amid gusty winds. Several tens of thousands of residents were left without light and heat. After this, a state of emergency was introduced in the region, which was in effect from January 25 to 27, and the Investigative Committee opened a case of negligence. Power supply to both cities was restored on January 27.
