Oil tanker Skylight came under Iranian fire in Omani waters

An oil tanker came under fire in Oman's territorial waters amid an ongoing military conflict in the region, the country's maritime security center said . 4 people were injured.

Update: The oil tanker Skylight (IMO: 9330020) was flying the flag of the Republic of Palau. The Iranian attack took place five nautical miles north of the Omani port of Khasab in Musandam province. All 20 crew members, including 15 Indian citizens and 5 Iranian citizens, were evacuated.

The incident occurred in the Strait of Hormuz, through which up to a fifth of the world's seaborne oil supplies pass and which has been a high-risk area for several weeks due to missile and drone strikes, ship detentions and threats to block shipping from Iran.

On February 28, after US and Israeli strikes on Iran, the IRGC closed the Strait of Hormuz to the passage of ships. On March 1, former IRGC commander and Secretary of the Political Expediency Council, General Mohsen Rezaei, said that the Strait of Hormuz is open to tankers “until further notice.”
