More than 60 drones were destroyed over the Leningrad region in less than 24 hours, Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported on the morning of March 23. In particular, the port of Primorsk, the largest Russian oil loading port in the Baltic region, was attacked.
“In the port of Primorsk, a fuel tank was damaged and a fire broke out. The fire is being extinguished, the personnel have been evacuated,” Drozdenko wrote on his Telegram channel. In addition, when one UAV fell, it damaged a power line support in the area of the village of Ermilovo, Vyborg District. As a result, a fire started there too.
As of this morning, 48 flights were canceled at St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport, and more than 50 flights were delayed. This was reported by the airport's press service.
The port of Primorsk was attacked by Ukrainian drones last September, forcing the oil terminal to suspend shipments for the first time. Primorsk is capable of shipping about 1 million barrels of oil per day, making it a key export center for Russian oil and the largest port in western Russia. The port ships the flagship grade of Russian oil, Ural, as well as about 300 thousand barrels of diesel fuel per day.
