Trump fired Pam Bondi as US Attorney General

President Donald Trump fired Pam Bondi as attorney general, CNN, Fox News, The New York Times and other media reported on April 2, citing sources. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has taken over the acting position, sources said.

Trump met with Bondi on the evening of April 1. According to Fox News, their meeting took place in the Oval Office before Trump addressed the nation about the war in Iran. At the meeting, Bondi learned of her resignation.

One of those sources said that by the time Trump began addressing Americans, Bondi had “already lost her job and was moving back to Florida.”

According to CNN, Trump suggested that after leaving the Justice Department, Bondi could be appointed as a judge.

Donald Trump has confirmed that he fired Bondi. “We love Pam and she will be moving on to a new, much-needed and important position in the private sector that will be announced in the near future,” he wrote on Truth Social.

• Bondi has served as Attorney General since February 5, 2025. She previously served as Florida's attorney general from 2011 to 2019. In 2019, during Trump's first impeachment over allegations of abuse of power, Pam Bondi was one of his lawyers.
• Todd Blanche led Donald Trump's legal team in 2023-2024 in the case of payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels for silence during the 2016 election campaign. Daniels claimed she and Trump had sex in 2006 and was paid to keep quiet by Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen. Trump himself denied any connection with Daniels. A New York court granted Trump unconditional release in January 2025 in this case.
