Former employee of the “K” department of the FSB Ramazanov became a candidate for the post of head of Dagestan

Deputy Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Magomed Ramazanov, who previously served in the Fourth Service of the FSB, became the main candidate for the post of head of Dagestan. RBC sources report this. The Insider's sources confirm the information.

According to The Insider's investigation , Ramazanov worked in Directorate K of the FSB Economic Security Service, which deals with counterintelligence support for the financial system.

Until recently, Ramazanov remained a non-public figure: his biography is practically absent from open sources, and his name did not appear in the media. In April, he took part in a meeting with Vladimir Putin on eliminating the consequences of floods in Dagestan, after which the president invited Ramazanov to return to the region to work.

RBC sources claim that his appointment to the embassy in the Far East was a stage of preparation for the gubernatorial position. The current head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, according to them, may resign in the coming months.

Dagestan is traditionally considered a complex region, and in recent years it has been led by people from the security forces. The Insider's interlocutor in the authorities of Dagestan notes that after Putin's decision to send Ramazanov to oversee the region, a feeling of “dual power” actually arose when the current head had an external curator.

Such a step, according to the source, may indicate that Ramazanov has been instructed to study the situation in the republic before making a final personnel decision. He also adds that after Ramazanov appeared in the region, local elites began to actively show interest in the new figure and seek connections with him.

At the same time, the official republican media, as the interlocutor notes, maintain a cautious position and do not draw premature conclusions, since formally the post of head of the region is still held by Sergei Melikov. At the same time, in the informal environment, in particular in Telegram channels, there is already a widespread opinion that Ramazanov is considered as a likely successor to Melikov.
