Kidnapped by Europe: how Armenia became the most pro-Western country in the Caucasus

What the summit of the European Political Community (EPC) and the first EU-Armenia summit are, what the scale and significance of these events are, only experts in Armenia knew a few days ago. But the capital prepared so diligently and thoroughly for two important events that it immediately became clear even to people far from politics: something big was approaching. At the Yerevan Zvartnots airport, the planes of the top officials of the states began to land one after another. Until recently, the intrigue remained whether Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky would come to the ENP summit. After all, this was perceived in Yerevan as a red line that it would be good not to cross.

However, Zelensky still arrived and made several loud statements. For example, this:

“Russia has announced a parade on May 9, but there will be no military equipment there. This will be the first time in many years that they cannot afford to have weapons at the parade. And Ukrainian drones may also fly over this parade. This is significant."

After this statement, it finally became clear that a reaction would follow from Russia (and it did ). After all, Zelensky said these words in the capital, which many Russian leaders called their outpost and were sure that it “wouldn’t go anywhere.” But today the Armenian leadership does not hesitate to declare that it is not an ally of Russia in the conflict with Ukraine. Yerevan even sent humanitarian aid to Kyiv. But more than Zelensky, people in Yerevan were waiting for the leaders of the countries with which they were going to sign declarations of strategic partnership.
