“Split”: the episode with the main character in women's clothing was cut out

The narrative line suffers due to censorship

On the Russian video hosting site Rutube, where pirated versions of films are published, the film “Split” directed by M. Night Shyamalan was censored, “Layout” drew attention.

An entire episode lasting five minutes disappeared from the picture. In the excised fragment, James McAvoy's character, who suffers from multiple personality disorder, is shown in a female form and clothing - in a skirt and shoes.

In the story, McAvoy's character kidnaps three teenage girls and locks them in a basement. Due to censorship, the film's narrative line suffers - the viewer is not shown why the heroines of the film are separated.

Uncensored versions could not be found on Rutube

Currently, a trimmed version of the film has been published on three channels on Rutube: “Filmach”, “Prime Time” and “Your Cinema”. It was not possible to find an uncensored version of “Layout” on Rutube. At the same time, the film is not available in Russian official online cinemas.

“Split” is a thriller by American director M. Night Shyamalan, released in Russia in 2017. At one time, the film collected more than $10 million at the Russian box office.

This is not the first time that films and TV series on Rutube have been censored. For example, in the translation of the series “Elsbeth” they changed the phrase about “saving the world from the Russians”, replacing them with “Ukrainians”, and also censored the LGBT relationships of the characters. And scenes about LGBT relationships were cut from the fifth season of Stranger Things .
As Vystka previously reported, fines under the article on “ LGBT propaganda ” range from 50 thousand to 400 thousand rubles for citizens and up to 5 million rubles or suspension of activities for up to 90 days for legal entities. Thus, at the beginning of 2026, cases of “LGBT propaganda” were opened in Moscow against the top managers of Kinopoisk, Ivy, Amediateka and Beeline.
