A liberal reformer was glorified in the Vladimir region | Argument

In the village of Cherkutino, Vladimir region, a monument was erected in honor of the reformer Mikhail Speransky, who was born there.

The composition was created by sculptor Igor Chernoglazov - the monument reaches 5.5 meters in height. The governor of the Vladimir region, Alexander Avdeev, took part in the opening ceremony.

This is the second monument to Mikhail Speransky in the Vladimir region: the first was installed in 2024 near the regional court building.

Paradoxically, Speransky is a liberal reformer, his activities sharply contrast with the current policy of the Russian authorities.

Speransky drafted the constitutional reforms of 1809 with a system of separation of powers, democratic institutions and personal rights of citizens. However, the liberal project was not implemented - conservative nobles slandered it to Alexander the First, which led to disgrace and deportation.
