China's Ministry of Commerce announced 17 measures to encourage the use of artificial intelligence in the consumer sector - both in the goods and services sectors. This was reported by the state television channel CCTV, Reuters reports .
According to the department, the measures are aimed at expanding the integration of AI into the daily life of households and businesses across the country. In terms of consumption of goods, the authorities intend to transform consumer electronics from functional to “intelligent”, as well as to create a new market for humanoid robots.
On the services side, measures should help address the rapid penetration of AI from consumer retail into public and consumer services. Lin Jian, deputy director of the ministry's Institute of International Trade Cooperation, said the introduction of AI will overcome the barrier that limits service consumption due to high labor costs and low standardization.
Earlier it was reported that China is preparing to invest about 2 trillion yuan ($295 billion) in building a network of data centers across the country in the next five years to overtake the United States in the race for leadership in the field of artificial intelligence. The project will combine computing centers operated primarily by state-owned operators China Mobile and China Telecom, and will be part of a broader infrastructure development program that could accelerate the adoption of AI in healthcare, transport and urban government.
