Former teacher of the Department of Journalism at Vladimir State University Tatyana Filippova, who was fired from the university after the start of the war with Ukraine, urged people not to enroll in the journalism department.

“I looked at the admission figures for my former department of journalism at VlSU. The former greed - two whole groups are about to be released - is in the past. This year, 11 places are budget, including 4 by quotas, 4 by contract. The state has sharply reduced numbers for undemanded specialties.

But I’m wondering whether I should go out to the doors of the selection committee in a single picket with a poster “Hands off journalism.” In the sense that there is no need for an applicant to go there - no truths will be discovered, no honor, no money.

And even more so, there is no need to go to the local so-called journalism department. Because here they will not teach you how to search and find information, conduct fact-checking, work with databases, think critically, analyze and systematize facts, distinguish good from evil.

What they will teach is to distort facts, copy-paste, run after jeans, write denunciations, keep quiet, tell rumors, adhere to profit, not justice, adore the authorities,” said Filippova.
