Residents of the villages of Artybash and Jogach on the shores of Lake Taurus (Altai Republic) in June 2016 began collecting signatures against gold mining near the reservoir. They argue that production using sodium cyanide will destroy the ecology of the lake, which contains more than forty -one cubic kilometer of “pure water”, and will kill the tourist business that feeds the local population.
