Murtaza Rakhimov, president of the Republic of Bashkiria since 1993, will most likely be dismissed in the near future, Vedomosti wrote on March 10. He could be replaced by a St. Petersburg native of Bashkiria, the head of the Housing Committee of St. Petersburg, Yunis Lukmanov, or a KGB native from Bashkiria, a KGB veteran, an acquaintance of Putin, currently a member of the Federation Council from the Bashkir parliament, Rudik Iskuzhin.
