How to read "A Tale of Woe and Misfortune"
About one of the most unusual monuments of literature of the 17th century The main character of “The Tale of Woe and Misfortune” does something unforgivable: he decides to live by his own mind, and not according to his parents’ precepts. Old Russian scribes did not approve of such behavior, so the Grief-Misfortune, which has common features with Slavic mermaids, Valkyries and the tempting demon, follows the poor fellow, and soon brings the young man to an extreme state.
