1953 Khrushchev was elected first secretary of the CPSU Central Committee
65 years ago, on September 7, 1953, at the plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Nikita Khrushchev was elected First Secretary of the Central Committee. Thus, he received approximately the same status as Georgy Malenkov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers. The collective leadership of Malenkov, Khrushchev, Beria and Molotov, created after the death of Stalin, after the arrest of Beria, actually turned into a duumvirate of Malenkov and Khrushchev.
