1993 Storming of the White House in Moscow
25 years ago, on October 4, 1993, at 5 o'clock in the morning, Russian President Boris Yeltsin issued a decree "On urgent measures to ensure a state of emergency in Moscow." Troops were sent to the capital. By order of Yeltsin, an assault was made on the parliament building, which was fired upon from tank guns. Because of the fires, the defenders of the White House, led by Alexander Rutskoi and Ruslan Khasbulatov, surrendered.
