1973 Terrorist attacks at Rome airport
45 years ago, on December 17, 1973, at Rome's Fiumicino Airport, five Palestinian terrorists fired on the terminal building, after which they destroyed a Pan American Boeing 707 airliner, and then hijacked a Lufthansa Boeing 737, which went first to Athens, then to Damascus , and then to Kuwait, where the remaining hostages were released. In total, 34 people died (2 in the building of the Rome airport, 30 in an American plane and 2 in a German one).
