1974 Revolution in Portugal
45 years ago, on April 25, 1974, in Portugal, junior and middle officers from the Movement of the Armed Forces ("Movement of Captains") overthrew the government of Marcelo Cayetana, successor to dictator António Salazar. The bloodless revolution led to the arrest of the leaders of the regime, the release of political prisoners from prisons, and the return of the leaders of leftist parties to the country.
