Honesty, or the Straight Road
Honesty - sincerity, truthfulness. The concept associated with the Old Slavonic "clean" is related to the ancient Indian "citti" - "thinking, understanding, intention." At one time, Beaumarchais, in The Barber of Seville, in a conversation between the Count and Figaro, outlined the boundaries of relative honesty. The Count asks: How honest is he? And Figaro replies: "Exactly enough so as not to be hanged." If you follow the precepts of Figaro, then nothing threatens Russian officials.
