A dangerous psychology myth has been used for more than 50 years
Many people have heard of the term “Stockholm syndrome” - it is often used to explain why hostages can begin to feel sympathy for those who captured them, and victims of abuse - for their tormentors. However, few people know that this term was coined by a psychiatrist who had never communicated with the woman to whom he had given such a “diagnosis.” This story began with a bank robbery - and ended with an affair between one of the hostages and the criminal.
