In January 2021, 16,347 people died in Moscow, which is 5,434 more than in January 2020. In February, 12,541 people died in the city, up 2,677 from the same period last year. This was announced on March 12 by the Moscow Health Department. In January, coronavirus infection became the main and concomitant cause of death in 5588 people, in February - in 3113 people. In January, covid became the main cause of death of 5038 people, in February - 2340 people.
