Since the start of the war, five major chemical companies have provided more than 75% of the key chemicals for explosives and gunpowder factories shipped by rail, a Reuters review of rail shipment records through September 2024 found . The five main suppliers of chemical components are Eurochem, founded by Andrey Melnichenko, Uralchem, owned by Dmitry Mazepin, Evraz, 28% owned by Roman Abramovich, Sredneuralsky Copper Smelter, founded by Iskander Makhmudov, and Lukoil, owned by Vagit Alekperov.
