The mayor of Nechef, appointed by the Americans, abducted people and took them hostage
The Americans arrested on Monday on suspicion of corruption of the mayor of the South Iraqi city of Nechef. Together with the head of the city administration, Abu Haidar Abdul Moneim, several of his assistants were detained. By decision of the US interim administration, the mayor’s post was already occupied by Haidar Mahdi al-Mayali. Munim, a Muslim Sunnit, is suspected of abductions of people, taking hostages, providing pressure on local officials and financial abuse.
