Chapter One in which Buran begins The village of Odessa. Road cafe. Serious peasants come in, shake, snort, talk anxiously. They are from Kazakhstan, crossed the border - this is 18 kilometers from here, but they can’t return - the road is closed, the Buran begins. The wind rises, cold and whilly, it howls quietly and drags snowy crumbs along the road.
