According to a Network Freedom Project analysis, 2022 was unprecedented in terms of blocking, data leaks, and restrictions on free speech in the Russian sector of the World Wide Web.

Unemployment in Russia is at a record low of just 3.6% (seasonally adjusted). Although, typically, during times of crisis unemployment increases, the country has witnessed a decline in unemployment rates. This has been brought on by a number of factors such as high levels of emigration, an ageing and naturally declining population, ‘partial mobilisation’, a reduction in production output and the withdrawal of large Western businesses from the Russian market.

2022 turned out to be unprecedented in terms of the scale of blocking, data leaks and restrictions on freedom of speech in the Russian segment of the global network, according to the report of the Network Freedoms project.

Russia has record low unemployment: just 3.6%, seasonally adjusted. It would seem that in the conditions of the crisis the number of unemployed should have increased. However, emigration, aging and natural population decline, as well as “partial mobilization” were superimposed on the reduction in output and the departure of large Western employers from Russia. As a result, according to the Central Bank, every second enterprise is faced with a personnel shortage.
