Following the terror attack at Crocus City Hall, an unprecedented campaign against labour migrants from Central Asia has unfolded in Russia. Thousands of people have been expelled or refused entry, and Russian regions have implemented a mass ban on the employment of migrants in various fields. Authorities in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have recommended that their citizens temporarily refrain from travelling to Russia.

At the same time, the surveys do not record a clear surge of xenophobia, which remains at a moderate level characteristic of Russia in recent years. On average, about 20%express hostility and anxiety in relation to migrants, in a weak form - a little more than 10%.

About 65% of those polled by Levada Centre and ExtremeScan support the Russian authorities' version of events that Ukrainian and Western special services were behind the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. An alternative view of the event, which suggests that the terrorist attack is connected with Islamist structures or Russian special services, is held by about 15%. Supporters of the two versions are clearly divided based on their attitude to Putin's political regime and the war in Ukraine.
