Attack on a Gypsy camp in the Volgograd region
Late in the evening of April 13, 2006, in the city of Volzhsky, Volgograd region, a group of young people (10-20 people), armed with metal rods and sticks, attacked nomadic gypsies (8 people in total), located in two tents on the banks of the Akhtuba River, and began beat them up. As a result of the attack, Grigory Maryenkov (born 1964) and a Russian woman, Galina Ponomareva (born 1961), who joined the gypsies, died on the spot.
