Jewish cemetery desecrated in Kaluga
On October 13, 2006, a Jewish cemetery was desecrated in Kaluga. Unknown vandals knocked over 10 tombstones, broke the fences of graves, trampled funeral wreaths into the ground. Both old and new graves were damaged. "This is nationalism, fascism, Nazism - whatever you want to call it, but it's wrong ," said Sergei Gorbunov, the cemetery watchman, who discovered the pogrom. The criminal case was initiated under Art. 244 ("desecration of the monuments of the dead").
