The trial of journalist Nikolai Andrushchenko has begun in St. Petersburg
On May 20, 2008, the Dzerzhinsky District Court of St. Petersburg began hearing the case of Nikolai Andrushchenko, a journalist and co-founder of the Novy Peterburg newspaper, charged under Part 2 of Article 280 (public calls to carry out extremist activities using the media), Article 129 (slander), Article 319 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (insulting a representative of power). On May 30, the consideration of the case on the merits began.
