Residents of Solovki complain to the president about the deterioration of life on the islands due to the activities of the monastery
On August 17, 2010, an open letter from the residents of the Solovetsky Islands to President Dmitry Medvedev was published. According to them, after the opening of the Solovetsky Monastery in 1991 and the conclusion of an agreement with the museum-reserve in 2001, the quality of life of those living on the island deteriorated sharply. After the transfer of Anzer Island to the Church, access there to local residents was blocked by security guards hired by the monastery.
