On May 5, 2015, a meeting of the Holy Synod took place Russian Orthodox Church, which decided to separate several more dioceses and filling vacant departments. Three new dioceses were formed on the territory of the Altai Territory: Biysk, Rubtsovsk and Slavgorod eparchies were separated from Barnaul.
