On October 21, 2021, the former General Secretary of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Russia, priest Igor Kovalevsky, published on his Facebook page an explanation of the situation around the historical buildings of the Catholic parish in Milyutinsky Lane in Moscow.

On October 22, 2021, it became known that that the case under Art. 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (violation of the law on freedom of conscience, freedom of religion and religious associations) in relation to the head religious group of Muslims Alavudin Abdullayev. Apparently, it's about failure to notify the Ministry of Justice about the beginning of the activities of a religious group.

The following is our review of the primary and most representative events in the misuse of Russia's anti-extremist legislation in September 2021.

The Sverdlovsk Regional Court dismissed the appeals against the latest rulings on the arrest of activists under Art. 20.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. On October 22, 2021, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court upheld the rulings of lower courts on the arrest of Other Russia activists E.V. Limonov Sergei Demidov, Kirill Imashev, Evgeny Nekrasov and Stepan Yurchenko, as well as party sympathizer Maxim Kamensky.

Mikhail Shendakov was sentenced to 3 years of probation in connection with the video "Colonel Shendakov told a joke about the National Guard ". In November 2021, a verdict was passed in the Moscow Region in a case of inciting hatred with the threat of violence (clause “a”, part 2, article 282 of the Criminal Code).

The examination appointed by the FSB found signs of extremism in a book about the repressed Kola Finns and Norwegians. On October 8, 2021, the Prosecutor’s Office of the Murmansk Region sent Agnese Haikare, the author of the book “An Unknown Northern History. On the Tragic Fates of the Kola Finns and Norwegians Subjected to Political Repressions”, a response to an appeal regarding the fate of part of the circulation of the publication, which was withdrawn in December 2020 .

A resident of the Novosibirsk region was detained for xenophobic comments on social networks and news aggregators. In October 2021, 41-year-old Roman Komotsky was detained in the Novosibirsk Region for calls for violence in comments on VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, some news aggregators, on the Rusovok.ru website. A criminal case has been initiated.

Jehovah's Witness Schmidt was sentenced to six years in prison under Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code. On October 22, 2021, the Gagarinsky District Court of Sevastopol found Jehovah's Witness Igor Schmidt guilty of organizing the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1, Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) and sentenced him to six years in prison to be served in a general regime colony. The defendant was taken into custody in the courtroom.
