Israel carries out Operation Capital Shield in East Jerusalem - residents of the border area report blockades and house demolitions
A large-scale security operation by the Israeli police, Capital Shield, continues in the Kafr Aqab area of East Jerusalem. According to Israeli media, the area is virtually isolated: roads are blocked, water and electricity supplies are disrupted, and thousands of schoolchildren cannot get to classes. The operation began on Friday, January 23, and is carried out by the police, border service MAGAV, special forces and municipal services.
