Now, however, Democrats are looking to retake the seat from Republicans in the November election by nominating former Gov. Roy Cooper as their candidate. The former head of the Republican National Committee, Michael Whatley, who was appointed to this post at the suggestion of Trump, will run for election from the Republicans. However, according to polls, Cooper is comfortably ahead of Whatley, so as a result of Trumpist machinations, the Republicans may well lose this seat.
