Google shuts down Sync service
An entry appeared on the official Google blog that the Google Sync service will close on January 30, 2013. Removing this synchronization protocol is part of Google's traditional winter cleanup. Google Sync is designed to synchronize data between mobile and desktop devices. It is based on the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol.

Google removes 2.5 million pages from copyright searches every week
The company reported on the fight against copyright infringement. Over the past six months, the number of requests from copyright holders has grown to 2.5 million. The company reports that the frequency of complaints about copyright-infringing content has increased tenfold over the past six months. When Google began publishing statistics on such claims in May, the number of pages it removed from searches in one week was 250,000—more than it removed in all of 2009.

Instagram added clauses on advertising to its rules
