Oil workers speed up small-scale energy program Surgutneftegaz, one of Russia's three largest oil companies, will reduce electricity purchases from RAO UES of Russia by a quarter by building mini-power plants directly at oil fields in Western Siberia. By 2003, the company intends to build seven of its own power plants using associated gas, which, according to its calculations, will allow annual savings of more than 1 billion rubles on electricity.
