At least two people have died in what is believed to be the biggest storm to hit the Russian capital in more than 90 years. One man in the Greater Moscow area died after being struck by lightning, local officials confirmed. Multiple flights were delayed or canceled at several Moscow airports, while the Moscow Central Circle railway line also stopped working due to fallen trees.

Russians born in 2016 are expected tolive 71.87 years on average, according to state statistics agencyRosstat. Women still outlast men by several years, with the averageRussian female living to 77.06, compared to 66.5 years for males. The southern Russian region of Ingushetia boasted the highest life expectancy in the country, withresidents expected to live 80.8 years on average.

The Russian parliament is considering new legislation which could see tens of foreign Russian-language media outlets banned from operating within the country. Russia's Federation Council, the upper chamber of the country's parliament, is debating new laws which would force Russian-language outlets to disclose how they are funded. Media companies receiving money from abroad would be forced to register as "foreign agents," opening them up to increased state scrutiny.
