26.01.2015Security Company Says 20 Million Credentials Stolen From Russian Dating Website
Hackers have stolen the user names and e-mail addresses of 20 million members of a Russian dating website and offered the information for sale online, according to a Web security company. Easy Solutions, the fraud-detection software-maker who unearthed the breach, did not identify the hacked website in its online statement, but the Bloomberg news agency said it was a St. Petersburg-based site called Topface.

Ukraine will issue domestic bonds amounting to 31.5 billion hryvnas ($2 billion) to support state energy firm Naftogaz, a document posted on the government's website said on Monday. Kiev, which is mired in an economic crisis, is under pressure to reform Naftogaz, whose financial deficit is significantly larger than the national budget deficit and requires government support to pay its bills.

Russia's consumer rights watchdog said Monday that it had imposed a temporary ban on salt imports from a state-owned Ukrainian producer, citing a violation of legislation. The Rospotrebnadzor watchdog said it had banned salt produced by Artyomsol, which is based in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine where pro-Russian separatists are fighting Ukrainian government forces.

26.01.2015Kiev Says 7 Soldiers Killed as Fighting Intensifies in Eastern Ukraine
KIEV — Seven Ukrainian soldiers have been killed in intensified clashes with pro-Russian rebels in the eastern conflict zone in the past 24 hours, the Kiev military said Monday, reporting fierce fighting at the strategic small town of Debaltseve. Violence in eastern Ukraine is at its worst level since a cease-fire was agreed last September and casualties have mounted, including in the port city of Mariupol where Kiev says 30 civilians were killed in rebel shelling on Saturday.

A sign in the former Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. In March 1944, when the first Soviet liberator set foot on the grounds of Pechora — a Nazi death camp in Ukraine known commonly as the “dead loop” — 6-year-old survivor Aron Zusman locked eyes with the newcomer’s German shepherd. Zusman was sent to the camp at the age of four. Over the course of more than two years, Nazi guards had made a habit of sicking their own fearsome German shepherds on the young Jewish boy.

Sochi was ranked 11th out of 20 resorts on the Prime Ski Property Index. Russia's resort town of Sochi, host of the 2014 Winter Olympics, has broken into the world's top 20 ski resorts by price growth for high end residences, according to a recent study by real estate agency Knight Frank. Sochi was ranked 11th out of 20 resorts on the Prime Ski Property Index, coming in just ahead of Switzerland's glitzy Gstaad.

Between 2009 and 2010, many Russians bought undeveloped plots at bargain prices with the plan of eventually saving up enough to build a dacha. Of all the possible reactions to a financial crisis, building a vacation home is perhaps one of the most unlikely. And yet, this is exactly what is happening in Russia right now. The number of orders to build houses and dachas on empty plots has tripled since the end of last summer, a report by construction company Nanokarkas found.
