24.05.2017Car Attacked With Molotov Cocktail in Central Moscow
An unknown attacker has thrown amolotov cocktail at a car in central Moscow. A man threw the homemade bomb at ahigh-end Mercedes Maybach which was waiting to pull into a secure area off Tretaya Frunzenskaya Ulitsa. The bottle reportedly hit the trunk ofthe car as the driver pulled away, the Moskva news agency reported. No casualties have been announced. Moscow police are investigating theincident.

24.05.2017Russian Federal Agents Say They Have a New Jihadist Under Arrest
Russian federal agents in Bashkortostan say they've arrested a man suspected of fighting with a Russian-speaking group tied to the terrorist organization al-Qaeda since at least 2014, the newspaper Kommersant reports . The Federal Security Service (FSB) has not named the individual, but a spokesperson says the suspect was detained earlier this month by guards while crossing the Turkish-Syrian border, before being returned to Russia.

Alexander Bortnikov, the head of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), announced on Wednesday that terrorists groups are using secret chats on the instant messenger Telegram to coordinate their efforts. While speaking at a security conference for intelligence agencies in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Bortnikov said FSB agents have obtained evidence that terrorists communicate through closed groups on Telegram, according to the news agency RIA Novosti.

Russian theater director AlexanderBurdonsky, the grandson of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin, has died inMoscow. Burdonsky passed away on Tuesdayevening at the age of 76, Russia's Interfax news agency reported. A spokesperson for Moscow's Red ArmyTheater confirmed that Burdonsky had recently been hospitalized with heart problems. Burdonsky, one of Stalin's 12 official grandchildren, had worked at the theater for morethan 40 years.

A new bill banning anonymous users from using online messengerapps has been submitted to the Russian parliament. The plans would require users of appssuch as WhatsApp and Telegram to identify themselves with their cellphone number. The companies behind the apps wouldalso be forced to pass on information to government bodies andagencies, Russia's gazeta.ru reported. If the bill is passed, messenger apps which fail to comply could be charged up to 1 million rubles ($17,800) or blocked in Russia.

A subsidiary of Russian oil giantRosneft has canceled an order for luxury tableware amid a public row withRussian anti-corruption campaigner and politician Alexei Navalny. RN-Aerokraft, a private company which operates aircraftfor Rosneft, had planned to buy dishes, cutlery and tablecloths worth $88,867 to furnish an executive jet.
