The selfish interests of our power
Back in 1994, Egor Gaidar warned of the threatening danger of people who put their selfish interests above the debt. The ideals of our statesmen are completely transparent. No, not socialism, not an empire, not military power excite them, these are all words. But in reality, they need to strengthen such a prose thing as a bureaucratic market, preserving a false state economy, where their actually private capital acts under the guise and by state rights.

The mechanisms of the collapse of authoritarianism
It is difficult to predict the start time of the crisis of the authoritarian regime. Sometimes it does not come for a long time, but when it begins, it unfolds rapidly, faster than anyone could have imagined. The leaders of authoritarian regimes often do not understand why this is happening.

Gaidar steps ahead
The New Times No. 51-52 of December 22, 2008 A crisis is a mechanism for cleansing the economy of weaknesses. The economist’s talent is to predict the development of events, and then explain why what he predicted did not happen. But Yegor Gaidar, speaking in January at the scientific council of the Institute of Economics of the Transition period (IEPP), very accurately predicted the beginning of the global crisis.

Yegor Gaidar: Russian budget and New York broker
Russia's financial situation is being tested One of the key points discussed in the expert community and government circles is the timing and scale of reducing the value added tax rate . The question is serious. We are talking about tax, which is the most important source of funds from the federal budget. When discussing changes in its base rate from 18 to 12-13%, one must understand that this is not a matter of particulars.

The price of Stalin's industrialization
The destruction of 7 million peasants, the slave work of the prisoners of the Gulag, the seizure of agriculture resources - this is the price of the Stalinist industrialization. How necessary were these victims? Egor Gaidar Director of the Institute of Economics of the Transition period Tsarist Russia entered the process of modern economic growth two generations later than France and Germany, to generation later than Italy, and approximately simultaneously with Japan.

The chances of the GKChP to stay in power were zero The New Times No. 28 of August 20, 2007 The chances of the GKChP to stay in power were zero. Even if they won in August, in March 1992, the regime would have fallen. Because in February, grain reserves would have dried up. Today it is difficult to even imagine on the verge of what disaster the country was by 1991. The oil industry - the main source of the budget revenues - began to crumble a year earlier.

Future Generations Fund
Today, when gold and foreign exchange reserves have exceeded $300 billion, it may seem that nothing threatens the country’s financial situation. In my opinion, this is a serious mistake. The Ministry of Finance is currently maintaining existing budget obligations. And it will keep them in the next three years - in the three-year budget plan that should be presented in April. But life doesn’t end after three years.

No one analyzed what the prosecutor’s office’s calculations were based on in the Khodorkovsky and Lebedev case
No one has yet analyzed what the prosecutor's office's calculations are based on, which formed the basis of the new indictment in the case of Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev. The conclusions of The New Times experts refute not only the calculations, but also the very methodology chosen by the investigators of the Prosecutor General's Office, on the basis of which the new charge was brought.

Egor Gaidar: "I sit on a powder barrel"
The New Times, No. 01 of February 12, 2007 On January 16, 2007, the price of oil "Brand" dropped to a level of less than $ 50 per barrel. So cheap oil cost only a few minutes. Soon the quotes increased. There are no reasons to assume that what happened is a signal to a sustainable change in the trend. The trend in price raising in the first quarter of this year may be restored.

Oil curse
In 1985-1986, world oil prices fell several times. And yet, the USSR collapsed not because of bearishness in the oil market. Bulat Okudzhava said this well at his last concert in Paris on June 23, 1995. He then read this short poem: “Universal experience says, That kingdoms are perishing Not because life is difficult Or terrible ordeals...
