The editor of the nationalist newspaper "Russian Veche" was sentenced in Novgorod

On January 20, 2007, in Veliky Novgorod, a verdict was passed in the case of Pavel Ivanov, editor of the Russkoye Veche newspaper.

The court qualified the actions of Pavel Ivanov under Part 1 of Art. 282 (incitement of national, racial or religious hatred) and part 2 of Art. 280 (public calls for extremist activity, committed with the use of the media) and sentenced him to 2 years and 4 months in prison in a penal colony. For a period of 2 years, he is deprived of the right to engage in journalistic activities and publish media.

During the investigation, 13 articles published by Pavel Ivanov in 7 issues of the Russkoye Veche newspaper were analyzed. According to the experts, "special means are used in the materials, including cartoons to enhance offensive characteristics that degrade the dignity of the Jewish people, there is obscene language. Thus, the main purpose of the materials is to form prejudice and aggression towards Jews" .

Recall that in February 2004, Pavel Ivanov was already convicted of a similar crime, but then the punishment for him was limited to a fine of 10 thousand rubles. As it turned out, between the first and second verdicts in November 2005, Rosokhrankultura had already issued a warning to Ivanov as an editor, stating that his publications contained information that incited racial, national, and religious hatred.
