Website islamindex.ru blocked

On June 18, 2012, the Prosecutor's Office of the Krasnoyarsk Territory announced blocking of the site islamindex.ru, voluntarily carried out by the registrar.

The Prosecutor General's Office succeeded in blocking this site with several tries.

In 2010, the Tushinsky District Court of Moscow and the Moscow City Court left the claim of the prosecutor's office was not satisfied. However, on September 2, 2011, the Presidium The Moscow City Court noted the decisions of lower instances. He pointed out that, " providing the technical possibility of access to prohibited by law information, the registrar actually acts as its distributor in relation to other persons "and is obliged" to take measures to restrict access to website ", and sent the case to the Tushinsky District Court of Moscow for a new trial in a different composition of the court.

The registrar satisfied the requirements of the prosecutor's office before the trial, and 6 April 2012, the proceedings were terminated.

Site islamindex.ru (there is also a "mirror" – islamindex.org, access to which is not prohibited) is a collection of many video, audio materials, a catalog of links and a library of texts, one way or another related to Islam. Quite it is likely that among them there are many materials recognized by the court as extremist. However from our point of view, the prosecutor's office should first achieve in court recognition of this site as extremist, and then demand its blocking. TO Unfortunately, the Supreme Court considers the correct practice of blocking websites on the sole basis that they certain prohibited materials are posted.
