OSCE conference on Internet freedom was held in Dublin

June 18-19 in was held in Dublin OSCE conference "Freedom on the Internet" .

The conference was attended by the Chairman of the Security Organization and Cooperation in Europe, Irish Foreign Minister Aymore Gilmar,  Estonian President Toomas Ilves, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy and Human Rights Issues Tom Melia, OSCE Representative at Freedom words by Dunya Mijatović, OSCE/ODIHR Director Janeh Lenarcic, company representatives Google and Twitter, IT specialists, social activists, human rights activists, bloggers and journalists from different countries.

Event was opened by OSCE Chairman Amour Gilmar, who said in his speech: " The Internet has become an indispensable tool for all citizens to search, obtain and dissemination of information. Governments must enable free access to the Internet for its citizens. However, the authorities some countries are increasingly resorting to various measures to limit this freedom, which is contrary to OSCE commitments and international human rights standards ."

The conference began with a high-level discussion on the topic how to preserve the possibility of freedom of speech on the Internet, which is open and public forum without interfering with other rights and freedoms person. In particular, during this discussion, Tom Melia stated that the Internet does not give rise to new rights, but existing norms about the right to freedom of speech sufficient and there is no need to adopt additional rules on safeguards internet freedom.

Three working panels followed:

• online content,

• Internet Governance And Human Rights,

• social media and social networks.

In the final session, the participants summed up and discussed recommendations for OSCE, participating countries and representatives of civil society in general.
