Mishchenko could not withstand the blow of Izvestia

The leader of the Young Russia movement, Maxim Mishchenko, resigned from the Public Chamber after a scandal surrounding his statement that it was necessary to cut costs for seriously ill people and direct money to treat those who could still be helped.

“I realized that the Izvestia newspaper dealt too much of a blow to the Public Chamber,” Mishchenko commented on his departure for PublicPost. “After that, I tried to explain my position, but it was useless, like going out with a slingshot against a cannon. Officially to the Public Chamber I haven’t announced my resignation yet, and I don’t know what I’ll do next.”

In an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, Maxim Mishchenko proposed reducing budget spending on seriously ill people for the sake of quality medicine for the majority of Russians. According to him, in the process of treating one cancer patient, the state deprives nine other people of help, so it is necessary, first of all, to allocate funds for medicine for everyone. In an interview with PublicPost, the deputy clarified his position: “Chronic alcoholics, drug addicts - financing the treatment of such people should be the last priority.”

On December 18, Maxim Mishchenko wrote in his blog that he was leaving the Public Chamber (spelling and punctuation of the original were preserved): “After the article in the Izvestia newspaper, I received such an amount of negative energy that I have never received in my entire life. Social networks exploded curses. All attempts to convey the Truth were in vain. It was no longer of interest to anyone. The tons of dirt that were poured on my head hurt those around me. I once again apologize to everyone who was offended by this article. for whom the words from the newspaper sounded like a sentence. I understand that the distorted phrases from my interview cast a shadow on the entire Public Chamber. I do not renounce my views , although I realize that I can no longer convey them to the public. has the right to represent the public publicly. Forgive those who were not able to help."

It is noteworthy that on December 20, a meeting of the inter-commission working group on ethics and regulations was to be held at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation in connection with the appeal of the “Movement against Cancer” regarding Mishchenko.

On the same day, Izvestia published the text of the apology. He stated that he “did not fully formulate his position” and asked for forgiveness from all cancer patients who were offended by his words. “I believe that the state should spend any money to help seriously ill people,” Mishchenko concluded.
