The New Times continues to follow the story of a man who received a terminal diagnosis*

Whatever Hollywood film about cancer patients you watch, all the main characters, having learned about their diagnosis, seem to begin to live anew. Someone goes to extremes, someone divorces his wife ... At the round table, the oncopsychologist and I discussed the question of who and how reacts to their diagnosis. And such a picture came out that the best - more precisely, even most correctly - react those who had before this problem a stormy and eventful life. Surrender those who were not confident in themselves and were not sure that this life is worth something.

It turns out that the best defense and the best strategy for cancer is a simple, simple and transparent thought: you have to live. Ladies and gentlemen, you just have to say to yourself: I will live. That's the whole secret of both struggle and treatment. The winner is the one who is used to winning back from his fate every day and every hour. The winner is the one to whom cancer gives an incentive and a reason to start living in full growth and in earnest. But why are people unable to understand and start fighting for their ideas, rejoice and worry about their lives if nothing threatens them? Why now I, looking back, as if I find myself in the realm of sleepers? After all, these are my problems, I have reasons for despondency, but I keep my spirits up, and people around me complain about life and complain about how bad everything is.

Everything is possible in this world. At the time of the brentuximab fundraiser, no one knew me. I wasn't a TV star, I wasn't a politician, I wasn't even a top blogger. I was an ordinary person. And when I faced the question of how to raise a huge amount of money, I took it as a challenge. And everything worked out. When I recently turned to people for help for the second time (see The New Times No. 18 of May 27, 2013), I already wrote this column, many people read my LiveJournal. And thanks to them, I got a chance again. Fundraising - $ 250 thousand - successfully completed! When most of it was collected, Bozena Rynska contacted me and said that one wealthy person expressed a desire to add the missing amount. See, miracles happen, and more than once! I have already written to the clinic that we are starting. Thanks everyone!

And I ask myself again: why do so many remain treading water? Why are people not ready to go out to others and present their arguments? I think it's a mistake to give up. If you really die, then only during a desperate attempt to survive. No one will give you any guarantee for this. But it's worth trying to live life to its fullest.
