A girl with SMA from Moscow was given a Spinraza injection after she was refused to continue her course of treatment. Her parents don't know if there will be more injections

In Moscow, a girl with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) was discharged from the hospital after receiving a Spinraza injection. Her father, Yakov Redko, told Such Things about this. In the fall, the court denied the child the right to continue taking Spinraza because she had already received one injection. Now parents are forced to ask for each injection of the drug separately.

The girl received Spinraza for a year under the humanitarian early access program from the manufacturer, and in April she received her sixth injection. The child needs the drug throughout his life; it was expected that the state would undertake further provision of the drug. After this, in August the girl received an injection at the Morozov hospital. The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow refused to provide the child with Spinraza in early October, citing the fact that since the girl received one injection at the Morozov hospital, her right to treatment was not violated.

Redko said that his daughter received a Spinraza injection on December 25 and was discharged the next day. He does not know whether the girl will continue to be provided with the drug.

“We wrote to the Moscow Department of Health in advance - a month before the injection, so that they would confirm it for us. Let's hope everything will be fine. The next injection is in April, we will also write in advance to confirm,” Redko said.

Lawyer Boris Malakhov, representing the interests of the family, told Takim Dela that he filed an appeal against the decision of the Tverskoy Court back in October. The Moscow City Court informed the TD that the hearing is scheduled for February 16, 2021.

“The time interval between the receipt of the complaint and the scheduled date of the court hearing is caused by the number of cases scheduled for hearing in the appellate instance of the Moscow City Court,” explained the press service of the court.
